Hey! I'm guessing you were expecting another short, one-sentence post by Simon about a random pokemon of his choice, but guess what, every sunday, I'll be doing pokemon of the day and hopefully make my posts a bit longer than Simon's.
So, getting down to business, today's pokemon is...
I'll admit, I'm kind've a young'un, but for as long as I can remember, theres been video games in my house. I can't even remember the day when I was two or three, just a little kid, and my dad coming home with an old used playstation he had been given by a pawn shop owning friend of his. In fact, besides the pawn shop thing, I made all of that up! But something I do remember, is Christmas morning in 2003, when I was around six, and waking up to find a gameboy advance under the tree.
My parents are so goddam awesome.
I feverishly unwrapped the package and slapped the Super Mario Bros. cartridge into my new system and giggled in delight because this was the first time I had ever played a portable game or a Mario game for that matter, so obviously I was entranced. My parents rounded me up for an hour-long car ride to my grandparents house as we did every Christmas and I climbed into the tiny station wagon and played Mario for the entire hour-long car ride. But this isn't what devoured my dreams and terrorized my nightmares for the entire next year.
When I arrived at my grandparent's house, I gingerly placed my gameboy on the table and ran up to my grandmother and gave her a hug and exchanged pleasantries. She opened a drawer and pulled out a shiny blue square with large stylized yellow letters on the front.
I'm sure by now you know what my first pokemon game was.
I ran through the now-familiar process of running through the first town and meeting my rival for the first time. And then, for the first time, I saw three options. I had no idea what these options meant, and I had no idea how vastly they would change the way the game went down so I just pressed A about a thousand times.
I ended up choosing Mudkip.
I had no idea how to catch any pokemon, so that one mudkip became my only companion throughout the entire game. When I finally beat elite four and the champion, my Swampert was level 93 with only HMs as moves.
Thanks for reading!
